Our TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Distressed Behaviour in Children course is great for anyone that works with children to help understand the causes of distressed behaviour and how to address these. The course considers how certain conditions can lead to distressed behaviours and why these should be understood in order to help children become calmer and exhibit more manageable behaviour.

Upon completion of this qualification, students are awarded a TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Distressed Behaviour in Children and an OLC Certificate. All certification fees are included in your course fees.

Assessments
To pass this course learners must pass 6 assignments. These are completed after navigating through the corresponding lessons and writing your answers to assignment questions. Unit 2: Principles of intervention when working with children who display distressed behaviours
You will discover in this unit how behaviour can be supported through the use of various behaviour management strategies and interventions, as well as the advantages of proactive support for children who display distressed behaviour.
Topics in this unit include:
- Understand strategies that can support children showing distressed behaviour
- Understand how to record incidents when working with children who display distressed behaviour
- Understand how to mitigate distressed behaviour in children
- Understand when physical intervention should be used and the importance of using physical intervention safely when a child is displaying distressed behaviour
Unit 3: Distressed behaviour and mental health in children
This unit will explain some of the most common mental health problems and how they are recognised, with various signs and symptoms for each one being identified.
Topics in this unit include:
- Understand the characteristics of mental health
- Understand how to support children with a mental health condition displaying distressed behaviour
Unit 4: Distressed behaviour and learning disabilities in children
This unit will explain some of the most common learning disabilities and how they are identified, as well as various behavioural characteristics for each one.
Topics in this unit include:
- Understand the characteristics of learning disabilities
- Understand how to support children with a learning disability displaying distressed behaviour
Unit 5: Distressed behaviour, sensory processing conditions and autism spectrum conditions in children
In this unit, we will examine the characteristics of autism spectrum condition (ASC) and sensory processing condition (SPC) and how they can impact the behaviour of a child.
Topics in this unit include:
- Understand the characteristics of sensory processing conditions and autism spectrum conditions
- Understand how to support children with an autism spectrum condition displaying distressed behaviour
- Understand how to support children with a sensory processing condition displaying distressed behaviour
Unit 6: Legislation and guidance for an individual providing support to children displaying distressed behaviour
In this unit, you will learn about the legislation that underpins support approaches, human rights of children and inclusion.
Topics in this unit include:
- Understand legislation relevant to distressed behaviour in children
- Understand wider support available when working with children who display distressed behaviour
- Understand how UK legislation can support the human rights of children who display distressed behaviour
This course can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.
